Error starting device playback OSError=| #53

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Playback anything with 24 bits

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Error starting device playback OSError=| <- I am unsure what this symbol is
after the equals, it's like a | with 2 dots above

Watching audio-midi Audirvana sets correct sample rate, but sets bits to 16
instead of the expected 24

Cannot play any other file of any bit/sample depth until after restarting
Audirvana (error = unable to exclusive access)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

10.6.7
0.9d / 0.9.3

Issue began a couple of versions ago. Sorry I can't be sure which one. I
kept hoping the "next version would fix the regression".

Please provide any additional information below.

USB output to a TE7022 based device. Issue does not occur when using built
in speaker in imac.

Thanks for your work.

Applications -> Utilities -> Audio Midi Setup
Try setting output with 16-bit rather than 24-bit.

Same issue.
iOS Yosemite 10.10.1 with Audivarna 2.0

Found this entry at Audivarna forum, someone's solved it but didn't say how.
http://www.audirvana.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=411&p=1641&hilit=Error+start
ing#p1641

I've tried the following, no success:

1. Tried different USB ports
2. Tried downsampling 192 to 96 ; tried tracks from 16/44.1 to 24/192
3. Audio cuts out after a short play (various from 10 sec to just over 1 min).
Same error when playing via iTunes (with Audivrana off).. so suggestion a iOS
issue? or DAC? (Primare DAC 30 Xmos) Previous version of Audivarna OK...
4. Tried all combination of integer modes, direct mode on/off
5. Tried varying memory committed to Audivarna
6. Tried optimizer on & off
7. Audio Midi won't hold onto to Audio with XMOS ...moves it back to apple
built-ine when play starts. According to FAQ, this is normal
8. Restarting Audivarna will run into "Error starting". DAC will need to be
turned off/on before Audiovarna will play again (and then mutes or "error"
anyway)
10. Error addressing changes from time to time

Tried another Macbook Air with 8GB memory, same Yosemite level.
- Dedicated up to 5gb to Audirvana... same error... ruled out buffering issue
- Tried downsampling all to 44.1 in Audirvana
- Changed sampling to 44.1 in Audio Midi for XMOS 2.0
- As mentioned, tracks also would not play for long on iTunes (radio was OK) so
not unique to Audirvana..
- 24/192 can sound distorted.. bad jittering somewhere...but where? Clocking
issue? Downsample to 96 helps but playing still stops or mutes? and then "error
starting device" next time
- JRiver 24/96 on PC is fine... (so rule out DAC and/or USB cable)
- ?????
- think find a way to revert to earlier version of A+...
