This will certainly be possible to implement. What tracknumber should be
assigned to
this track? Perhaps track 0(zero)?

Yes, that's what I have been calling the track. That would be really great. :)

An alternative would be to prepend the sectors to track 1. Anyone?

I would not like that approach, as it would alter what exactly the first track
is. It
could possibly confuse fingerprinting of the tracks (like used at
musicbrainz.org and
last.fm). Of course, if users of the ripper are given a choice to not prepend
it,
it's fine. But I would really opt for using track 0.
Just my thoughts. :)

Isn't this exactly what a cuesheet tries to solve?

But I don't think that most people use cue sheets? Maybe it's a bad guess. I
know I
don't. Anyway, how I understand cuesheets, they are used when ripping an album
to a
single file, and not the current rubyripper approach (ripping to multiple
files), so
I still stand by my statement.

Current solution, resulting from issue 123 is to prepend any lost sectors to the
resulting track. This includes a hidden first track. I'm looking for a better
solution though.

I'm not absolutely certain if this is related, but the only cd I've been unable
to
rip since upgrading to 0.5.5 also happens to be the only cd that I own that has
a
hidden track in pregap before track one (as far as I know), so a connection
seems
pretty likely.
I generally have been ripping all of my cd's to single file images with cue
sheets,
but when I ran into trouble with this one, I tried to rip it in the more
traditional,
one file per track format, and still have had no luck. The GUI of Rubyripper
shows
no progress, but the commandline output yields a seemingly endless repetition of
"scsi_read error" messages. Here's the first several lines of the output:
intrepid@intrepid-laptop:~$ rrip_gui

I'm using Rubyripper 0.5.5 on Ubuntu 8.10. Hopefully this is helpful.

Please join in at the AnalyzingDisc_Research wiki page. The plan is to use
cdrdao to
get the info about the disc.
Please show what the output is for a disc with a hidden track:
cdrdao read-toc --device /dev/cdrom output

Is it possible to provide the output.toc of on a disc with a hidden track?
cdrdao read-toc --device /dev/cdrom output.toc

Here we are. Looking at it myself it seems to call it SILENCE which I can
inform you
is not the case. The CD is Rammstein - Reise, Reise (UK release) and the pregap
is
not silence. I believe cdrdao bases this off the TOC however, because it
skipped over
this portion in <1 second, where as it does not take <1 second to do other 30
second
portions of this disk.
