Imager zoom / focus tweak issues #54

(Proxying Bill Schlotter's SLAC Slack messages into an issue)

Bug Report Bill says:

I just went to adjust the focus on IM1L0 by jogging it 2 units. The starting value was -10% claimed to have jumped up to 60 something and has finished the motion at 23%. THis is the same problem I reported last PAMM recovery. I have yet to check the motion of IM2L0 or IM4L0 but I assume a similar thing will happen. I'm very frustrated by this interface. We can't consider this okay. We won't be able to move ahead with training others to use this system and more importantly expect it to successfully function autonomously. Please let me know how much effort is involved in solving this issue.

This seems to show up when I go to move the focus or zoom on imagers directly after the PAMMs. It's not happening on all of those systems. I don't see it on the screen motion stages just the zoom and focus. WHat happens is I put a value in to jog (or just directly) and when the motion starts the readback value jumps by an unphysical amount (meaning it jumps faster than the stage can move) and then it moves some amount (different than what I expect) and stops. I've seen this before (years ago) and I think it had something to do with the autosave implementation.

Expected Behavior

Context

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Have PAMM
  2. Finish PAMM
  3. Tweak imager zoom/focus motors
  4. See motors moving strangely

I assume this is a more general issue that would be solved with improving the relative/unencoded encoder handling in lcls-twincat-motion. From a slack conversation the general plan right now is to:

With some more specific details to work out via experimentation this week with a test stage.
