I don't thin it's easy to change or duplicate the current implemtation for real
checkbox controls.
But I agree that we should support easy POSTing / submitting of selctable
trees, when Dynatree is embedded into a form.

Hi,
Again, just my 2 cents :) I don't think this issue is duplicated and fixed by
your new example.
I agree if it's not easy to do or you just don't want to do it, but just don't
mark this as "fixed"... don't know the status available here but something like
"Won't implement", "Rejected", something like that is more accurate :)
Anyway, when I need this feature again I'll think about implementing it and
contributing the patch as I don't think it will be too hard to do (but am I
just saying, didn't look at the source code)
regardless, keep up the good work

I see that you had other goals than submitting, so it's certainly not a
duplicate. I've been a little too fast here ;-)
Don't think I will approach this in the near future, but if you or someone else
comes up with a convincing patch, you're welcome.

Very important issue for all web developers. I hope to see "real" checkboxes in
1.3 release.

I tried to refactor de code to show real checkboxes but i have some headache to
make it work totally.
I would like to know if someone is working on it or not. I might give it more
times in the futur. In the meantime, here's a work in progress of what i've
done.

As of 2014 Dynatree is feature frozen.
Please have a look at Fancytree (sequel of DynaTree 1.x): chances are good that
the problem was resolved / the requested featuer is already implemented.
Please open a new issue there otherwise:
