R uses some terms specifically and sometimes differently than other programming languages (due to legitimate backend differences).

A couple we identified to clean up and align on:

objects rather than variable - whenever we do an assignment, we should refer to assigning an object (rather than variable)
variable is used specifically for tibbles and data frames to refer to columns
vectors are commonly used for 1D arrays of numbers

May be others we need to discuss
