information elg 5902,5301 information about report writing 5902 information about student jobs(refer professor Liam's email)

There may indeed be opportunities for full or part-time paid work for students who are graduating. But under Ontario law graduated students can NOT do unpaid internships with companies. They can volunteer their time with non-profit organizations like PDC to help a worthy cause and get experience but for profit-companies must pay for internships.

Students are exempt as long as the experience as part of their degree requirements. All the non-thesis graduate programs in the faculty are registered as internship programs with the Federal Government. They are listed on the Government of Canada’s list of recognized internship programs at https://www5.psc-cfp.gc.ca/coop/noitcanoitutitsnimargorphcraes.do (Search program = Masters, Institution = University of Ottawa). Organizations hiring our students (full-time paid internships) are eligible for the government subsidies that are provided for COOP / Internship students. International students who secure a full-time paid internship can apply for a COOP/Internship work visa with a copy of the job offer and a support letter from the graduate office (email engineering.grad@uottawa.ca and attach your job offer to request such a letter).

This should be documented by PDC .. ideally somewhere on the PDC website ... so both students and potential organizations can see it. If documented there ... let Prof. Sawsan know so she can refer to it in the ELG / GNG 5301 course materials.
