get permission to use RLIS data #7

Closed darrell closed 10 years ago

We need permission to use RLIS Data – specifically the taxlots table so we can join based on tlid.

If possible, we would like to get permission to use master_address, too, since the data distributed by the city only includes addresses inside the city, although the building data has info for the entire metro area.

Who wants to take point on this? Who at Metro should we ask? Just a warning that this could take several months (it did for TriMet) -- what's the plan if we can't get it?

I'm thinking Zac Christensen is the right person, yes?

pdxmele commented 10 years ago

I was just thinking about this today... I think he'd at least be a good place to start.— Sent from Mailbox for iPhone

@pdxmele do you want to take that, or should I?

pdxmele commented 10 years ago

If you can, great-- not sure when I can get to it :(

geografa commented 10 years ago

Ooooh @darrell - did you hear back from Metro?

darrell commented 10 years ago

@geografa I haven't e-mailed them yet. :(

geografa commented 10 years ago

@darrell cool. happy to help if there's something I can take on, draft, or review. :)

@darrell had a good chat with Zac Christensen at Metro. Here's the scoop:

Buildings

Other contacts we can utilize are Kelly Houger - she's listed in the metadata - and Justin Houk.

Permission granted:

We now have the RLIS buildings and master address file moved over to non-subscription status. You should be able to download from our RLIS Discovery site without a subscriber login. http://rlisdiscovery.oregonmetro.gov/?action=viewDetail&layerID=2406 http://rlisdiscovery.oregonmetro.gov/?action=viewDetail&layerID=656 Please note the metadata data link in these pages as well.

Here is a link to our standard Terms of Use page… http://www.oregonmetro.gov/index.cfm/go/by.web/id=505 The main take away from the “legalese” is that Metro should be cited as a data source.

Let me know if have any questions or issues with downloads.

Looking forward to hearing about the progress on this very cool project.

If the past is any indication, the committee is going to want something more explicit...

geografa commented 10 years ago

@pdxmele do they have a form or checklist? If not, I can ping sergey.

pdxmele commented 10 years ago

No strict checklist afaik, but the more info that can be provided is usually appreciated.— Sent from Mailbox for iPhone
