peaceknight05 / warbler-dictionaries

My personal stenography dictionaries for use with Plover CAT software. Based off of Lapwing Theory and fully backward-compatible with Lapwing rules, with a few additional rules for briefs sprinkled on top of it. Adds a large amount of non-North American pronunciations / British pronunciations.

Non-rhoticity #7

Technically encompasses a few other noted difference to do with quasi-vowel R, but separated into its own issue for completion.

Where NA accents emphasise "r" sounds after open vowels more and may have higher tongue arching, GB accents tend to have a much more subdued pronunciation, often times dropping it. Compare: bear, air, tar, far, etc.

To help maintain consistency, Warbler will include an explicit orthographic rule for the inclusion of R in words affected by non-rhoticity, similar to Lapwing's orthographic rules for the inclusion of silent h's like in "hour", and silent w's like in "whole".
