Hey @willpearse I just spotted this project on one of your webpages. This looks very cool! I know its still early on and we had chatted over email about potentially working on something like this. It looks like this is an attempt to cobble together a bunch of community ecology datasets. I just wanted to suggest that the rdataretriever package may help with the downloading portion of this task and possibly even data discovery as well (there is a good chance you already know this though). This should be especially true for more complex datasets like FIA and BBS. The function fetch is most likely what you're looking for if you want to download, process, and load the data in to R. I'm going to send you an email about some metadata I've been curating for this purpose as well.
