This gist (https://gist.github.com/willpearse/1bdfaff2eb8a93080f159d7a77993d96) contains some functions that don't work in MADcomm and really shouldn't be sat in there in a if(FALSE) block. Someone fix these up and add them in when they have the time...

Many of these drops relate to LTER/EDI PASTA going down for downloads, for some reason. If you can fix that, you can fix a lot of birds with one stone
