Offline media #113

Feature for offline DVDs and data disks (that has mp4, avi, mkv files
etc.). Offline media goes into the database just like on-line movies
except when you select the title you're told the disc is offline, "please
insert disc" or better yet user a user defined prompt. Example: "please
insert disc from shelf 4, row 3, disc 7".

God yes... I have yet to find a movie manager for Vista Media Center that will
do
this properly. Most of my media is offline, stored either as actual video
DVDs, or
burned onto DVDs and CDs as .avi files, typically Xvid. I also have some
Matroska
and H.264 stuff. Most movie manager programs seem to be geared towards online
media
and/or specifically video DVDs, where as I'd wager there is a significant
proportion
of Media Center users that have media stored otherwise.

In summary, it would be AWESOME to have a field for "Location" which is not
restricted to a number (in my case, it could be "Wall Rack" or "Cabinet" or
"Storage
Case 1-123", the latter example a location AND an index number). Perhaps
Location
and Index could be two separate fields that can be combined in the VMC
interface.

Having OML show some sort of "Insert Disc" message and then play the DVD/media
file
(e.g. "X:\Name Of My Movie.avi" where X is the optical drive) would be great
but in
my case just having a Location field is critical. If an "Insert Disc" message
and
then auto play of the DVD/file was implemented, it would be nice to not be
restricted
to a particular optical drive (I have two in my HTPC).
