[feature request] subset tag chooser in fullscreen mode #122

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
ok, this wish might be strange, but I'm tagging my vaccation pictures right
now (about 1500) and know that I will only have to choose from 10-20 tags,
which are predictable before.

what I imagine to tag all these pictures in a rush is this:

1) select a subset of tags that are expected for the upcomming tagging-session
2) enter full-screen mode for the to-be-tagged pictures
3) scroll through the pictures and choose (checkbox) tags from the
preselected subset that match each picture.

I expect a huge speed gain, when tagging whole events and when you need a
detailed view (full-screen-mode).

for those interested in a similar workflow as a workaround:

for all tags to be assigned
scroll through all pictures in full-screen mode and select matching ones (space)
  assign tag to selection

Why don't you tags your photos in the folder view ?
I do multiple selection with the mouse middle click and then apply tags.

the thumbnails are too small to tag everything.
especially for people. oh and yes: i'm tagging people. everyone.

In the past ... the "tree tags" was present in fullscreen mode, tetting people
check/uncheck tags with the mouse.
But it was removed with the "keyboard tagguing" feature, which is a lot faster.

Try to press keyboard in fullscreen mode, to see if it's up to you.

i know that feature, but only use it occasionally (like i see a photo whith a
forgotten tag). unfortunately my tags implement some kind of hierarchy by
convention.
that would mean a lot to type as my tags look like:
People.Lastname.Firstname or Location.Europe.Germany.City

to circumvent much typing i already suggested feature request issue #138.
when typing the tags it would be nice to match on any substring (so that the
input
"Germany" filters all tags that contain it instead of having to type
"Location.Europe.Germany")

it's a non-sense to store "Location.europe.germany" in your pictures ...
you should store only "germany" ... because germany is (and will always be) in
"europe", and it can be only a "location".
it's redundant ! no ?

sorry, but it's not non-sense. of course it's redundant, but if i want the
hierarchy
in the picture, there's no other way, as long as it's not supported native.

this becomes helpful, if you run a script through all your pictures that
completes
those redundant tags with exiftool. so the tag Location.Europe.Germany.City
will add Location.Europe.Germany and Location.Europe automatically.
This improves the search results as i can now search for europe and will get
all cities.

it also improves overview when a shared storage is used by many jbrout users.

while this gets off-topic now, would you like me to add two stand-alone
feature-requests? (embed hierarchy in picture and advanced keyboard tagging)
