@lewislepton Hi. Yes this is a known issue which unfortunately is the result of a bigger problem that lies in the state of the vector engine as a whole. When we publish announcements for each release we also provide a known issues section of problems that have not yet been fixed due to their complexity or because they are blocked by other tasks. You can read more about currently known issues for 0.6.4 version here: https://www.pencil2d.org/2019/05/pencil2d-0.6.4-release.html#known-issues
Coming from the original Pencil2D 0.5.4 build there were some attempts to improve the vector engine as a whole, however these contributions stopped and the vector engine was left as a work-in-progress. It is true that what Pencil had before was somewhat working, although it wasn't by that much.
Currently the vector layer is not recommended for use in production. The developers are focusing on the bitmap engine and there's also a full replacement coming through for future versions. Once they are through with these tasks, it's been agreed that they will start working on an improvement, if not a replacement, of the current vector engine, which should fix these problems once and for all.
I'll ask you to leave this bug report open so we can also track progress for the specific issue (width modification on stroke placement) but currently I think it will be difficult to work on a specific fix due to the reasons described above.
If you require a free vector animation software for macOSX no matter what, please consider using Synfig, TupiTube, or Opentoonz to complement your work with Pencil2D.
If work starts advancing on the vector features we'll gladly let you know through this issue as well. Thanks 🙇
@lewislepton p.s. Your Haxe / Kha tutorials are the best 👍💯
hahaha thanks. its weird how many people know me now. not used to this [not] fame 😘
that's great to know. I had not checked out the release notes, so that's on me for not checking. but thanks for getting back regarding the issue & even the plans for a fix. it sounds good. plus understand that things are limited in terms of development, since this is an open source project, it can be hard to get things done quickly & effectively that can please everyone
luckily im currently not looking to do development work with it. its more as a 'lets learn some fun things & improve skills'. so i'll still use it, just keep myself knowing that things will be fixed as & when they do. but still get to learn 👍
ive been trialing loads of software recently. all the ones you mentioned. but either they are too bothersome. such as synfig with its vector node system thing [which ends up slowing things down in an artistic sense]. tupitube feels the same to me, maybe I need to check it out again. opentoonz has been pretty bad for me, slow & very unresponsive. though im sure it was fine a year ago. also blender with grease pencil has been utterly poor in performance.
also been doing paid softwares to trial out & harmony is maybe the closest to what I want. but that initial cost? woof. but it is nice & the right thing. pencil2D reminds me of it, which is great.
so ill keep using & learning & look forward to seeing development come in
thanks again ♥️♥️♥️
Issue Summary
When drawing, using a simple tablet. the vector lines squash pretty badly at the start, not following with how exactly how it is drawn. even when using pressure, it does not adhere to the pressure used using the tablet. it will show that no matter how thick I start the line, it squashes it really badly. this is using the vector line tool. ive tried lots of different settings, but can't seem to find something which could fix this. maybe I missed something [more than likely]
Expected Results
for it not to squash the beginning of the line like you had just sat on your only packet of snacks & the shops are closed... plus cant go out due to what's happening 😘

Steps to reproduce
using the public download of the latest macOS version. only using vector line tool. simple drawing on canvas on the vector layer
