Lost My Notes #378

A few days ago, I was using My Notes and I couldn't scroll or do anything and it was glitching so I uninstalled it to see if it would help run more smoothly and then ALL my notes got deleted and I can't get them back and Sync was also not working either. I need to get my notes back ASAP.

When My Notes or extension in general is uninstalled, data (in this case notes and settings) are removed. Uninstallation cannot be interrupted with a message (custom or general message) that would warn about this, unfortunately.
If there would be any problem in the future that would seem unrecoverable, it would be better not to uninstall for the reasons above although this may come counterintuitive compared to reinstalling classic apps (not extensions, outside browser apps) where that happen to help.
If there happen to be a critical problem as it happened now, and it requires an immediate fix (until the official fix is released), it can always be fixed locally: either using the Custom theme if it's a visual problem, or applying a script (which I would help to provide) to the storage or settings if it's a storage problem. In this case, we were dealing with a visual problem that was already fixed here: https://github.com/penge/my-notes/issues/376.
Any fix I make, unfortunately takes about 2 to 3 days to be reviewed by Web Store and published on Web Store. In the early versions of My Notes, I also experiended 2 to 3 weeks waiting times to release (any release can take up to 30 days as stated by Web Store before each release), which really made the development unpleasant.
Nonetheless, I wanted to bring more light into the topic. I would also like to apologize for the situation that occured. I try my best to avoid releasing a bug (also because of release times).

Back to the problem. Google Drive backup, or backup as ZIP file or txt/html files, are the ways to recover the notes. (When My Notes was not uninstalled, there's just another way.) Do you have a notes backup in Google Drive? Can you describe what happens after the sync? Do you see Location: and Last sync: updated? Can you try to import the notes as files in the Options / Export & Import section? Let me know if that worked.

Doesn't seem ASAP. Closing.
