I think we are not ready to support that live ebuild due to fast development
and ruby specifics.
There are a lot of dependencies which are not currently in the tree. So we
stick with the gentoo version. Please see gentoo's bug
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480160 if are you willing to contribute

Well, that's disappointing.

unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to keep up with some of these projects
which never make a release and wildly change git all the time. We can try, but
especially ruby is terrible about this because every third day it seems
everything ruby is new, new deps, new forks, major changes, etc.
Honestly, all ruby devs should learn basic software development and things like
'release cycle'.
Until that day, it's very difficult for us to keep up, so I'm afraid it's
"patches welcome, expect breakage" for a lot of these projects that simply seem
not to care to support users.

btw, w3af team has tagged few versions recently, so we are good with the stable
version. Just need to test these ebuilds provided in the bugzilla. Feel free to
do so.

I have make a bunch of ebuild to try to make w3af boot (see tree.zip), and it
actually works. There are very basics (mainly downloading from pip, then let
distutils-r1 do it's job), and if existing, contains tests.
I may need some help to resolve the after-booting, it complains about missing
profile, but I can not tell if it is related to the git version or my fault.

Gentoo team is slow, so I might push these ebuilds so we can test it before
they go back to Gentoo. Thanks for working on it!
