I don't think that a picture which comes from the latest post is the optimal solution for our homepage. We don't create regularly enough new posts in order to have also changing title pictures. This will lead to title pictures which only represent very few of our actions in PeP et al. and not all of what is and should constitute PeP et al. Also with the button in the center of the picture it has to be chosen very carefully to "look nice". To avoid discussions about what is nice and what isn't we should think about something different. I could imagine two solutions which serve us in a better way (but I'm surely open for other new ideas ;) ):

• having for all our activities in "vereinsleben" one representative pictures which give us a pool of pictures from which the shown one is chosen randomly
• creating a collage with pictures of all this activities and have this as a standard title picture

I think I get your point. Let me try to clarify the idea of the landing page:

• it should arouse interest (that why we want an image)
• it should give a brief overview of our current activities/news (the four additional posts serve this)
• it should invite the visitor to
  • stay on the website to find out what we are doing, if PeP is new to him
  • quickly see whats going on if he knows PeP, but needs information, etc.

What I think of the alternatives:

• If we chose a random image, we have to decide what this means. Will it change every day, on every visit, once per week? In my opinion this would always lead to confusion. Furthermore this would still only represent one of PePs activities per visit (at least if you don't chose to change the image on every load).
• I think a collage would destroy the design of the landing page. If someone does not know PeP, he probably first wants to learn about us in a general way (thats why we added the "PeP. et al., blablabla" box, just below the landing image). If he knows PeP, hell quickly notice the navigation bar with Vereinsleben which leads him to all our activities.

Maybe we have to decide on the question how the landing page should represent PePs activities in a more general way first. In my opinion

• PeP should be represented by the whole website, it is not necessary to show everything we do on the first page
• users will understand that showing a single main activity at the top and four additional posts below doesn't mean that we only organize a single thing

A compromise might be to define a more or less neutral default image, or one default image per category.

Everyone who's interested in the new website should comment here, too, since I feel like everyone should at least accept such general design decisions before we deploy the site.

BTW: This actually already is a discussion about what's nice and what is not, but I think its fine 😊

As discussed in the last meetings, we want to define some default images for the categories. So we need images for:

• [ ] Default/Fallback image
• [ ] absolventenfeier
• [ ] bachelorkolloquium
• [ ] berufsfelderseminar
• [ ] Mindstorms
• [ ] soak
• [ ] toolbox
• [ ] vereinsleben

I think the first one is most important for now. Obvisously this also needs to be implemented.

A default/fallback image could be as well our foreseen PeP flyer? I think the default image should represent PeP and show in which items we are active.

Absolventenfeier: I would update this every year with the group picture of all alumni.

Bachelorkolloquium: Give Arne a Camera and let him shoot one or two pictures the next time. (Or use every year the current schedule)

berufsfelderseminar: flyer or shoot photos there.

Mindstorms: Picture of the most fancy robot which has been built

soak: Every year the group picture with all people (the one on the street, where the paths are separated)

toolbox: picture or flyer

vereinsleben: picture of stammtisch?
