High battery drain with data on #146

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Data on
2. High battery drain, about 25% in 8 hours.
3.With data off, battery drain is about 8% in 8 hours

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
In stock 2.1 I had always data on, the same programs installed and maybe more
and battery drain was about 8% in 8 hours

What version of MiniCM you are using? On what device (mini, pro, x8)?
My device is mini

ROM: miniCM 2.0.0. The same problem existed when I was using miniCM 6.1

What app(s) are involved in the problem?

Have you tried rebooting your device?
Yes and battery calibration many times.

What is the adb logcat output when the problem accurs (see:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Logcat)

Please provide any additional information below.

You might also want to look on how much data your phone is downloading. I
checked with my provider and it seems that X10 Mini downloaded around 400-500MB
od data in just 2-3 days (with just normal services like google and facebook
sync, weather and news sync, etc.). And it's not because off additional
software. I only had a fresh install of MiniCM6 with the basic, bundled apps.
Without data transfer the battery life extends about 3-4 times in my case.

I've done some testing here. What I've found out is that if I run only 2G
(instead of 3G/2G) the battery time of my phone with this rom is practically
doubled, I have no problem managing one day without charging anymore. I live in
an area with quite bad 3G coverage, so I can't really say I notice any change
of speed either.

Could it be that 2.2 and up tries to switch up to 3G more often than 2.1 and so
is heavier on the battery if 3G coverage is bad?

@daniel: Might be. I think I did read somewhere that the speed of battery drain
is faster when the phone switches between 2G and 3G constantly. That is not
limited to Xperia only, but to all phones with 3G (theoreticly you have a
constant signal search, initialization and deinitialization of 3G, etc.).
Similar things might happen when your carrier signal gets lost and found
frequently (but that's a rather rare case ;) ).

I made an easy thing.. installed shark for root and noticed many attempts to
contact or being contacred by google servers (0 byte packets)...
maybe this is the problem, maybe the timers or maybe the internet protocol
used...
dunno if google uses udp for notifications but if it is so and minicm is set to
send tcp packets instead of udp this would be a high drain cause...

kernel nAa-14 not problem. fixed
