Restructure test to avoid running on different executors and triggering hypothesis HealthCheck #439

Close #416

It looked like the grouping of these tests was nice for naming / general coherence, but that it wasn't strictly necessary for functionality. Since it seemed like structuring these into a class was linked to triggering the health check, I made these top-level functions and updated names and signatures accordingly.
