Not a high priority, but could be a nice feature.

This should be part of the basic functionalities of the lists.
It makes lists only good for storing information (which is a good start), but
not practical at all to actually read any information directly.

It would be nice if Google would provide some feed back or status so users knew
if this is something is in the works or not.

This would be wonderful. I'm using lists as a productivity tracker since it's
sortable by column and the entry window is clean and accessible by everyone on
my team.
Sadly the description area is congested. I have 6 columns to track
completion/contact info/due dates, etc and they are all the same width. This
results in an enormous amount of white space and a "description" column that
can span the entire vertical screen.
Please fix!

Even if you can't "manually" alter the lists - at least make the default column
widths logical.
The most obvious to me is for the "Checkbox" type column....it should only be
as wide as the checkmark or the column heading (whichever is longer). It's such
a waste of space to have it be 1/2 the width of the page....it's just a little
check mark...
