Brilliant. That's the kind of quick and easy tutorial that newbies (an a non-webber oldie like me) need. But putting it ONLY on Perl.com is living in the echo chamber. I'm sure it will end up being linked too on reddit but maybe a link on someplace lie dev.io would also be in order?

Glad you liked it!

Plaster it all over the place if you like. I think I originally mentioned it in /r/programmer. I'm only ever going to publish my articles in one place.

David and I were talking about this today. There are various roles in the Perl community. I tend to write and edit things. Someone else can take up the job of promoting, curating, and linking things (reddit, facebook, LinkedIn, wherever). If I'm writing the article and posting it to the places I know about, it just looks like I'm this rando guy (and we had trouble with that in Perltricks).

For anyone reading this: if you have a favorite place you like to find things to read, promote the Perl stuff you liked there too. Take charge of one little corner of the internet. Be the person that promotes stuff there. That way, people like me can spend time producing content instead of visiting all those sites. The more people who do this, the more we get out into the network. If it's just me promoting my stuff, it never leaves my network.

dev.io looks like someone's personal blog, but I'm open to publishing articles in any place that will have me.
