Suggested by Polagye. Seems like it may have similar computational expense as blade-resolved CFD, but simpler meshing.

Brian said that Tim Colonius of Caltech will try this with cross-flow turbines.

Looks like he already has. Got a conference paper of his. I sent an email inquiring about turbulence modeling and computational expense. It looks like they're doing DNS, but it's very low Re (1000).
