Many thanks for the kind words, Lewis.
I can't blame the software though. All the key errors are due to my own efforts. I was concentrating on the printable output resulting in sub-optimal abc files. I started out using music OCR and notation software but found correcting the output slower than hand coding an ABC file.
The current priority is completing the text editing of Volume II which I should complete in the next month. Then I’ll look at correcting the keys in the Volume I ABC file before encoding the Volume II ABC file. Then it is laying out Volume I using the technique developed for Volume II, optimising each page and then a final edit of text and music before preparation for publication. I estimate that will take about a year.
I’ve upgraded my OCR and notation software which may change the estimate. It may speed things up or improve quality yet slow things down.
Conversion software is always ‘iffy’ and information frequently gets lost\changed. ABC files with multiple voices are a challenging area.
All feedback greatly appreciated.
Thanks again, Lewis.

Dear Pete,
Greetings!
Brilliant initiative! Your abc transcriptions are a major contribution to the study of our British musical heritage.
I suspect that, like me, you use music notation software to create xml files, and then use conversion software to create your abc files from your xmls.
A problem, however, is that conversion software, in its current stage of development, gets the number of sharps or flats in the key signature correct, but assigns to them the relevant key signature for the major scale.
To take but one example, your excellent transcription of 196 Cupid's Courtesy has K:Bb as its key signature when it should, of course, be K:Gm. This makes no difference to the playback of the tune, but it is theoretically wrong, and, if we want to educate our public in tune analysis, it is best corrected.
The only solution, I am afraid, irritating as it is, is to manually correct the errors.
With all best wishes to you, and for the success of your project,
Lewis Jones. lewiswjones@yahoo.co.uk
