Return real error from Erase()

Returns the real error from Erase() so, for example, the caller can check os.IsNotExist(err)
Removes a double negation (!!p = p)

I was sure the !!p was there for a reason. But I can't possibly conjure up what it was. So, LGTM. Thanks.
