Edited install process so it works for me #6

I made a few changes that might help some people over come some issues mentioned when installing. I'm not sure if it warranted a pull, but it was easy enough to fix on my clean-ish ubuntu 14.04 machine.

thanks for the fixes , i incorporated them manually along with some other minor details. added you to the credits in the readme
