https://wordpress.org/support/topic/let-facepile-avatars-link-to-the-like-repost-etc/

We have another request on this. Wondering if it is worth making it easier to change. I know the good reason why we didn't link to the original like, but...

@tantek has made the case that it doesn't make sense to link to the original in a like or reposted...but a mention, it might....I never thought of distinguishing this feature by type. Worth discussion,.

I’m not sure why it wouldn’t make sense, since my argument is about trust and transparency for readers. But then I’ve decided to turn off comments and pings altogether anyway so if no one else is interested in that argument then I guess carry on.

@bixfrankonis We have not decided anything yet! We are discussing options!

I’m not sure why it wouldn’t make sense, since my argument is about trust and transparency for readers.

It's about a like! Most sites do not have a source at all, they simply show who has liked it, without any context! So it is not far-fetched to try to have the same experience for Webmentions (at least as default).

On the other hand, if users need it differently, we can see how to implement that different option.

But then I’ve decided to turn off comments and pings altogether anyway so if no one else is interested in that argument then I guess carry on.

And yes, it is hard to discuss all of that, if you already decided to not use it any more.
