@kellijohnson-NOAA and I are putting together draft presentations with a goal to having the first draft complete by the end of the day on Thursday.

Lingcod STAT members, if you're available on Friday, please save a little time on your schedule to look over what we come up with and provide any feedback that you may have.

FYI, materials and agenda for the STAR panel is at ftp://ftp.pcouncil.org/pub/!2021%20GF%20STAR2_Lingcod/ [I don't think I can make a clickable FTP link but you can copy and paste.]

I cannot find the presentations in the "Presentations and Requests" directory at the ftp site. Did these get moved? I recall seeing them a few days ago.

kellijohnson-NOAA commented 3 years ago

It is empty but still available in my browser.

iantaylor-NOAA commented 3 years ago

@brianlangseth-NOAA, I presume your larger question is "where are the presentations that everyone was asked to look over today?" Sorry, I've been going slow with those that I'm working on. I should have a first draft of the first one available hopefully by around 10am.

@kellijohnson-NOAA, should we commit the .html versions rendered from the .Rmd files to the repository or put them on Google Drive? We can also put them in docs to appear on github.io.

Running rmarkdown::render('presentations/presentation_STAR01.Rmd') isn't hard but I think we'd get feedback faster if we can just share a link. I'm guessing that they won't go to the FTP until first thing Monday morning.

I would rather share a pdf version via google drive or in docs than commit a result.

andi-stephens-NOAA commented 3 years ago

That would be fine.

@kellijohnson-NOAA, do you have a recommendation to build a PDF? I've been using rmarkdown::render('presentations/presentation_STAR01.Rmd') to get the HTML and am overwhelmed by the 5 PDF options listed at https://github.com/yihui/xaringan/wiki/Export-Slides-to-PDF.

kellijohnson-NOAA commented 3 years ago

Print it to a pdf via print.

Sorry for the delay: the first (quite brief) lingcod STAR presentation is posted to Google Drive here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1r8EHoQTeXkxfn77zbwzY7_F_Aj_4HYwJ I posted both html and PDF. Neither can be viewed well without download as the PDF requires rotating which is easy in chrome and Acrobat, but I don't see how to do it when viewing in Google Drive.

You have a caption: "Age- and length-based maturity functional maturity'

And were you planning on talking about the different vulnerability to the fishery by females and nest-guarding males?

Otherwise, looks great!

Hi Ian and Kelli, I like that you get straight to the point in this short introduction. I don't see the other slides up in the drive, if I should be looking at GitHub let me know.

Thanks @melissahaltuch-NOAA and @andi-stephens-NOAA for taking a look at presentation 1.

The other presentations are still in process but we're behind schedule (what a surprise), so don't worry about providing feedback on those.

We're going to try to keep them pretty minimal under the assumption that we should just focus on the key points we think should be discussed rather than repeating everything in the reports. If the reviewers want to see more we can show those things on the fly or come back with additional presentations as needed.

kellijohnson-NOAA commented 3 years ago

FYI presentations are here on the drive and will be on the ftp site soon.
