P - I don't know how (or if its possible) to create a pull request with only specific commits - this is just for the setup.py gsl search paths. I think you might be able to cherry-pick it if you wanted. C

I added the four commits by cherry-picking. The gsl fix appears to work, on ubuntu, centos 7, and mac. Thanks muchly!
