"Golden Image" question: I assume one of the many Rocker containers might serve well as an initial starting point? I assume the bare essential rocker/r-ver would serve the needs as it has "an emphasis on reproducibility" when compared to r-base.

However, my understanding is that (many) companies deploy from fully customized docker files and scripts and/or use other virtualization environments like Apptainer (formerly known as Singularity).

But given the popularity and simplicity of docker and using a readily available, well-known base build like rocker/r-ver seems the way to go.

Some questions from my side remain:

• what R Version do we start with?
• Do we want to go "back in time" and create the repo for older R versions (given that reporting environment might lag behind with the installed R versions)?
• Do we only focus on linux environments or do we plan to support windows as well? That would be MUCH more complicated!
