Do you know if the brainstorming mode is always available or is it only available when the mindmap is empty?

It's optional. you can close anytime you want. When you opened the brainstorm mode just adding to screen without connection. when you closed just you can add as sub-nodes.
This seems like a good feature to add, so I'm going to put it on my list.
You can sort of do this already with existing functionality, but it's not quite as elegant. For example, you could create a second root node (call it "brainstorm" or whatever, and attach a flat list of nodes with your ideas to that node. Then drag and drop the ideas into the appropriate places in the first root node structure where they make sense. You could also use the Quick Entry box to do something similar.
With that said though, I can see the appeal of this form of data entry and having the application sort of "randomly" place nodes close to the root node that are not initially connected to anything. It's an interesting way to do brainstorming in a mind map.
A few days ago, I was using SimpleMind on my smartphone. I saw a feature called brainstorming mode in this app. When I turned on brainstorming mode, SimpleMind allowed me to add keywords that were not related to the root. Once I finished adding keywords, I could sort the nodes by dragging and dropping them to the right node.
Here is the video : Simplemind - Brainstorming
So in less than 5 minutes, I could randomly dump my thoughts on a blank screen and then create a meaningful mind map out of them.
Is it possible to add the same feature to the Minder app?
