Thanks! There were a lot of things I didn't like about Windows, but there's something I find very nostalgic about the UI. It was thoughtfully designed, and easily navigable using just a keyboard especially with the underlined mnemonics in the interface. I put FreeCell in the screenshot because I played it a ton in those days — it's probably the app I used the most when I should I have been doing more productive things, glad it caught your attention 🙂.
I'll look into the issue you opened shortly.
@DutchPete after you dropped Windows after 8.1, what did you use instead?
@sungkang I bought a new laptop with a 17" screen, wiped off Windows 10 and installed Linux, tried a number of distros and got frustrated — I probably did things wrong and/or used the wrong distros.
I then bought a MacBook Air in 2019, and boy, what a joy. Everything worked marvelously and there were no update f*ck-ups like with Windows.
However, I eventually found that 13.3" a bit too small. Also, from a privacy point of view I felt uncomfortable with using Apple's OS — I admit I might be a bit paranoid.
Anyway, a few months ago I dusted off my 17" beast, installed OpenSUSE Tumbleweed but soon ran into what I had experienced earlier, so I replaced it with Ubuntu 22.04. I did not not like the Snap system, although Ubuntu is very stable and really enjoyable.
OTOH, Zorin, though it is an Ubuntu fork, uses mostly Flatpak apps, though it offers Snaps too for apps for which there are no Flatpaks. I am really enjoying Zorin because of the stability and I don't have to spend hours tinkering trying fix problems.
Perhaps you laugh at me behind my back for this basic, novice attitude, but like I said to others, for me this analogy explains it perfectly: I don't want to have to be a mechanic to be able to drive a car.
It's also become one of top 3 favorite theme. I'm really grateful for your awesome work @phchang My only nitpick i'll change at some point is the absence of text background for code blocks, as pastel colors have low contrast on light grey.
Edit: after a few more uses, the coding block with no darker background is kinda growing on me, it arguably flows better with the rest of the text body.
When I 1st saw your theme I thought "meh, probably not worth it". Curiosity got the better of me because I could not understand what the deck of cards meant. If you put that in to attract users, that was a smart move.
After installing it I liked it immediately, it did not have to "grow on me"; even though I hate Micro$oft's handling of Windows, there was nothing wrong with the visual design of W95-8.1. I dropped Windows after 8.1.
