Type-C Not Working (SOLVED!) #34

Open N7SIX opened 8 months ago

Hello Ian,

I recently discovered that the Type-C charging port isn't functioning. Despite testing it with three different charging cables and chargers, it doesn't seem to work. Is it not feasible to have this Type-C charging port included?

Thanks and 73 Sean

Hi Sean.

You can try to turn the K5 on with the USB connected and press briefly the PTT. Check if the blue led on top stays on.

If you disconnect the radio it should keep the blue led on, but if you turn the radio on again it turns off (the led).

Hello Sal, I tried your suggestion and nothing happens.

Firmware has nothing to do with USB charging. It does charge only to about 80%, needs "dumb" usb charger. No QC, PD, etc chargers.

Thanks for feedback Yes, that's right. The firmware only changes the icon when USB charging (when current flow is detected). I have now tested USB charging and confirmed that charging works well. Ian KD8CEC

Thanks for confirming that the USB Type-C charging issue is unrelated to the firmware. This has led me to investigate further, and I'm confident there are no hardware problems. I discovered that USB Type-C charging only functions when the battery is below 70%. Once the battery reaches 70%, charging stops. Since my battery was between 71% and 90% when attempting to charge with the USB Type-C port, that explains why charging isn't working. You may now consider this closed!
