I got partway through instrumenting the simulation before realizing I need to add support for substructure of items in a TPool. The instrumentation is untested and partially complete but still may be useful once I resume work on the instrumentation, so I'll check it in to a branch. This branch can be closed when merged into master or abandoned (if replaced by different work in master or elsewhere).

The work in master has superceded this branch, and this branch can be deleted. I will delete it shortly.
