why is superconstructor called in the middle of construction? #35

In ManualGeneExpressionModel the superconstructor is called halfway through the constructor, and it has an unrelated comment just above it. Is there any reason that it's here and not at the top of the file? If so, it should be documented and, if not, it should be moved.
