OIT is disabling Powerpoint Add-in? #14

Email from Mike Dubson:

I'm sorry, there are currently no plans to enable 3rd party access to office add-ins for CU-Boulder Office 365 accounts. The Office of Information Technology did look into turning on additional non-core apps and third party add-ins, but decided against it.

As part of utilizing the CU-Boulder Office 365 service, the Office of Information Technology worked with CU-Boulder University Counsel to review the Microsoft contract and specific Microsoft applications. The non-core applications and third party add-ins are not covered as part of our official contract with Microsoft. Although we can turn the applications on, we can only do so by accepting the general public terms of use for the service.

University Counsel had additional concerns with how the applications and add-ins would be used. OIT was advised that, if we wanted to enable additional apps and add-ins, we also needed to work out a very specific "terms of use" and to have everyone sign it. OIT doesn't currently have the staffing to accept the responsibility for turning on additional apps and add-ins, developing the CU-Boulder "terms of use", making sure everyone who potentially uses a CU-Boulder account acknowledges the "terms of use", and providing oversight, review, and support of the apps and add-ins.

I sent an initial email to OIT, the reply above to Mike doesn't make it look promising, but I will see fi there is someone we can talk to.

QA tested the add-in and copied the error: https://github.com/phetsims/QA/issues/335

After some back and forth with OIT they wrote me and said:

The PhET Sim PowerPoint add-in should now be available as a Managed Add-in, for all Office 365 users at CU Boulder.

I am clarifying if this works for local copies of PowerPoint as well.

Some initial testing suggests that VPN might be necessary (OIT likely only tested from campus connections). We might want to resolve that as well.

This issue appears to be "mainly" solved, there appears to be some weirdness for users that are using a student account on gmail, instead of the Exchange account. Otherwise, generally in good shape, and OIT appears to be working out the final kinks. Closing.

@ariel-phet A user looking to deploy our Powerpoint add-in in their school is experiencing a managed add-in error. Do you have a contact at OIT that enabled managed access at CU (I assume this user could use a similar method at their school).
