From Kathy: Can you two lead our response for this? I think it should be about the launch of PhET Global and/or the use of PhET in the pandemic.

Physics Faculty

Veronica and I are beginning to create the 2022 CU Physics Calendar which will highlight faculty accomplishments and other physics department news. We are looking for art-worthy high resolution photographs, visual representations of experimental data and computer simulations, or artist renditions that describe your research.

  1. Please email your images directly to Veronica.Lingo@colorado.edu and copy me, or let us know how to download the image. Please indicate who we will need to acknowledge. We often include multiple images on a month page, including group photos of your research group. Please provide us with the highest resolution images you have. We often use public domain images from large research groups or federal agencies that relate to your work.

  2. Please provide a short 100 to 200 word description of the images and your research program that will be printed along side. Most calendars go to our alumni but we strive to not be overly technical since we also distribute the calendars widely around campus.

  3. Please include announcement language for any recent awards or honors you or members of your research group have earned.

We've actually got some imagery from Diana's projects down in Colombia --> these pictures are of face-to-face workshops in rural regions of Antioquia, Colombia, in which teachers have spent time learning how to incorporate PhET sims with hands-on activities through a series of modules developed by Diana with IU Digital. In that case, we should also incorporate Carl's winning the Yidan Prize for Education Research into the blurb that goes with the image.

I would vote for one of these two images:

You can see the sim in the screen and engagement is high.

Here's a start at a caption using the language you provided @RVieyra: "PhET workshop in rural regions of Antioquia, Colombia, in which teachers spent time learning how to incorporate PhET sims with hands-on activities through a series of IU Digital modules developed by PhET Ambassador, Diana Lopez.

In addition to meeting global remote learning needs throughout the pandemic, PhET’s founder and Nobel Laureate Carl Wieman was awarded the 2020 Yidan Prize for Education Research for his contribution in developing new techniques and tools in STEM education. The Yidan prize is the world’s largest international prize in education."

@RVieyra any feedback on the text above? Preference on the image?

RVieyra commented 3 years ago

I prefer image(5).png, because the computer with the sim is more front and center, and also because the person is clearly wearing a mask...I think it actually is a really a good show of effort that we're still doing things during a pandemic.

I also really like your text, @oliver-phet. I''ve added just a few things to show numbers.

"PhET workshop in rural regions of Antioquia, Colombia, in which teachers spent time learning how to incorporate PhET sims with hands-on activities through a series of modules developed by PhET Ambassador, Diana López, and the Digital University Institution (IU Digital) of Antioquia. In 2021, PhET has provided in-depth professional development workshops and courses to nearly 600 teachers across Latin America.
