Anything <3.7 could probably be dropped - but I did not want to jump ahead...

I guess this should also close #77

Thanks for the PR. I updated the ci file for newer python versions. I had to use a different format because of different python versions being available across different system distributions. I want to test for compatibility with earlier python versions as much as is reasonably possible on the development side; sometimes some systems are stuck with old software versions and I want to avoid being the package that breaks their setup.
