broken loads in foreground tabs #70

When BarTab is set to 'don't load them' for the 'When opening tabs in the background' setting; new tabs that are immediately focused (from searches, bookmarks, etc.) are somehow treated by Firefox as not loaded, even though their contents are clearly visible. These tabs cannot be refreshed with the F5 key and the AutoPager extension cannot load any pages. When a link in one of these 'broken loads' is clicked there won't be an option to go back to the previous page, treating the newly loaded link as the page originally loaded in the tab.

I can't figure out why it doesn't happen in every foreground loading instance though; seems to depend on both the website and search term, if the tab being loaded is a search tab. The bug is reproduceable using the same search term or url.

When a page is loaded in the current tab or tabs are opened in the background then clicked to load, the bug never occurs. The same if a blank tab is initially opened for the page to load into, no bug. It's only with foreground tabs.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.8 with extensions: TabMixPlus (controlling how tabs get focus on open/close) DragIt (opens links and performs searches through drag gestures) BarTab (2.1b1).

I can confirm this with Firefox 3.6.11 on Ubuntu 10.04, TabMixPlus 0.3.8.4, and BarTab 2.1b1. I don't have DragIt installed, so that can be ruled out.

I don't know if this falls under the same issue, but clicking any of the images on this page (I've checked the first half dozen or so) clobbers/replaces the opening page in the history (i.e. no back button). I've spotted this on a large number of sites/pages, but this is the first one I've remembered to report. There's nothing funky in the HTML. They're just standard links.

For anyone looking for a workaround (or just a less troublesome alternative to TabMixPlus), Tabberwocky (1.1) doesn't have this problem. It has the handful of features from TMP I need, without the thousands of options I don't, and it comes up on AMO as an extension that's often used in conjunction with BarTab, so there don't appear to be any compatibility issues.

Tabberwocky ... doesn't have this problem

Self-correction: I still see this issue (with Tabberwocky; I don't have TMP installed) with links opened from bookmarks i.e. bookmark -> Open in New Tab -> click link clobbers the history, preventing navigation back to the bookmarked page.
