Feature Request - Flag orders that are FSA eligible #226

Open vPeteWalker opened 1 year ago

Hi there. I stumbled upon this addon as a way to export all my Amazon orders, with the goal being to identify which orders are eligible for FSA. While not supported today, I think it'd be an awesome addition for future consideration. Thanks for all your hard work.

What is FSA? - it is a defunct(?) financial regulator in the UK, and maybe a food regulator that still exists. Neither of these sound like something that anyone could want to bind to Amazon orders, so you’re going to have to help me a bit.

Flexible Spending Account. Sorry, I thought this was a common term. Thank you very much.

You have answered my question, but left me not much wiser! I am assuming it's this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexible_spending_account Would you be interested in writing up a proposal in some more detail?

drewclauson commented 1 year ago

I can chime in here on a skeleton proposal!

In the US, we have Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts. They allow us to put money away tax free and use it on eligible health expenses. While Amazon doesn't have a flag set properly for every single eligible item, for the ones that they do have a flag set, it appears as below on the invoice page of the order. The amount pointed out of $7.44 in this example would be the total eligible for FSA/HSA. I can provide the source of this page to you privately if you'd like to consider integrating it into this tool and need an example page to work/test from.

Just curious if any thought or effort has been put into this? Man, Amazon is shockingly bad with this. I seriously can't believe they can't do this today, when other much smaller companies, like CVS, Walgreens, RiteAid, etc. I gotta stop buying shit from Amazon if it's FSA. I have 350 orders I need to go through for 2022, and this is going to take a ton of time. Either way, thanks very much. Hope you're having a great day.

I think I need a few (3?) order debug json files that exhibit FSA, per https://github.com/philipmulcahy/azad?tab=readme-ov-file#how-to-save-and-send-an-order-debug-json-file so I can have a poke around and attempt to scrape it.

Thanks,

Philip

I will try to send you one soon once I can look through all my orders (!!) to find one. Thanks for a great extension!

Just sent you an email with 3 order debug files that have FSA / HSA eligible items. Hopefully that helps! Thanks for the great extension.

To provide a little more information on FSA / HSA eligibility.

Like @drewclauson mentioned, FSA / HSA are pre-tax accounts that people can reimburse themselves. In order to submit these reimbursements, you need to login in to your account providers portal and submit claims that include receipts for each item. Having a way to identify all the items that you've purchased in the last year from Amazon that are FSA eligible with links to the invoices / receipts would be exceptionally helpful.

Found an app/extension that does this, and takes a cut: https://www.withsilver.app/

Btw Costco.com already has a way to just see FSA items in your order history. Wish amazon.com had that... So simple...
