USD as base rate on Free? #28

Can someone confirms this still works for US merchants with a base rate of USD?

In reviewing the docs on Fixer.io it states: "Minor limitations include our new 1000 requests/month limit and ***EUR being the only available base currency for customers using a free account."

If true, $10/mo a little steep for a currency changer and need a different solution.

This may be true but I haven't looked into it.

Yahoo has a solution that M2.1+ integrates with natively.

Migrating to m2 for the currency updates not economical

philwinkle commented 6 years ago

I'm making the point that the service exists, I'm not suggesting that you migrate to M2. You could integrate with that instead - or you could pay for Fixer.

Eh. No good options there. Last I heard Yahoo had shut down their API last year $120/yr to update rates via Fixer not worth it. Better to just shut off the changer

I'll post what Fixer says on the EUR base rate only policy.

Update: If you already had an account with Fixer.io prior to the change you can get a Legacy Plan This plan comes with free SSL support and the ability to change base currency

This should work for all currencies. I worked on that part specifically to keep the service free for everyone and tested the accuracy:

Review the details of https://github.com/philwinkle/Philwinkle_Fixerio/issues/22

This also has brought up a few things I should update:

1) Documentation 2) Scheduling updates.
