9 years ago Basic set of new projects (shared with the ones provided by Momentics) are now deployed and exposed via VSIX package. Implemented on develop@PH-v2.0.0-beta.
This task was rather complex and required components like:
- custom registration attribute (to let VS know, where inside the VSIX package the templates are located - .vsz and .vsdir files)
- custom registration attribute for own Wizard Engine (to take the full control over created projects; thanks to that it was not needed to create JavaScript files nor any bloat stuff for "default" VC++ wizard)
- creation of custom Wizard Engine (included in package) able to populate project items and project files at specified locations and preprocess them to rename items on the fly and mangle content based on developers input; in theory It can also specify any WinForms UI, but it was unnecessary for now
- icons (and descriptions) exposed by the package
- templates itself
A process of starting new 'BB10 App' inside Visual Studio is quite... complicated. It would be really helpful, if there were some New project template wizards.
