Cannot install (Keka corrupting installer) #29

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Double click the installer. It opens a dialogue window "This package contains
a program that
determines if the software can be installed. Are you sure you want to
continue? If you're not
sure about the source of this package, click Cancel to prevent it from running
the program and
installing the software."
2. Click "Continue"
3. New Window opens with a message "SIMBL cannot be installed on this computer.
An error was
enountered while running the InstallationCheck tool for “SIMBL.” " ... a
very helpful message ....

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expect it to install, and it doesn't...

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.8.2.
Mac OS X 10.5.8

Please provide any additional information below.

Is there more detail in the Installer log? Can you add that to the report?

I certainly can, and could you let me know where can I find the Installer log?

Under the file menu in the Installer application.

Are you using a non-English localization?

Original comment by ms...@gmail.com on 17 Jan 2010 at 7:45

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I am using an English system, with region set to UK and with Japanese input
methods
installed.

Ok, I'm stumped.

Have you tried:
  * re-downloading the archive and installing it?
  * installing it as a different user?
  * installing it from your desktop?

Hi. I'm receiving the same error, except my error log is shorter.

Jan 20 00:56:55 Could not run InstallationCheck in the SIMBL package. launch
path
not accessible
Jan 20 00:56:56 Installation checks failed.
Jan 20 00:56:56 Installation check failure. SIMBL cannot be installed on this
computer.. An error was enountered while running the InstallationCheck tool for
“SIMBL.”.

I am on 10.5.7

I tried re-downloading and installing from the desktop.

The only clue I have is that I have a couple of non-SIMBL wrapper like plugins
on my
system: Chax (for iChat), Warp (for Spaces), and NuFile (context menu).

I solved my problem 15 minutes later.

I tried re-downloading it again and this time unpacked the tbz via the terminal
(tar
xjvf ...) rather than using my unpacker, keka.

And it worked. Keka must have been foobaring the file when it unpacked it.
