Translation #3

Add the possibility to translate the strings used.

Translation capability added and German language .mo and .po as a starter. These are just deeple translations so maybe need checking. Is there anything else I need to do? I could put a .pot template file up for potential contributors.

A .pot template is not necessary, because if you like to start with a new language, you can use any existing language as a template, too.

Please, find the translation to German enclosed (with added .txt because .po is not supported here). de.po.txt

I'm missing the translation possibility for "compact".

Maybe you would like to replace "\n" just before "More templates to come." with"<br>\n".

There is "See the ReadMe section for important information on that.". That is not very helpful, because it is unclear where the ReadMe can be found. It would be better to have a URL link behind that or even better to copy that relevant content into this text.

The deeple translation of the sentence "As well as using the toolbar to apply HTML formatting, you can insert database fields which are updated automatically." was ambiguous because the reader could assume that the insertion of database fields is supported by the toolbar. Maybe it would be better to make two sentences instead of one. I have done that in the updated German translation.

I've made some changes to text that I hope are clearer and added en_GB.po and mo language files. What is the best approach for further translations? I've used up my free translations with poedit. And from what I understand it is better to allow native speakers to make translations. Or should I do my best with Google Translate or deeple and let others improve on them if they desire?

I suggest to wait for some webtrees users to contribute. They are native speakers, cannot program, but are more than happy to bring in their knowledge. You should invite them in a new section in the READme.

Instead of using a local editor of po/mo files you can use https://poeditor.com/ I like this tool but they recently changed their commercial offer and I'm not sure if it is still available for free. If you have 100 or more strings to be translated it is significantly better than the local editor.

If you are ready and released a new version you could do some marketing maybe. For example a Blog post in the webtrees forum. It would be good to link to a live demo site. If you like you can link to https://ahnen.hartenthaler.eu, too.

I used the online poedit but soon ran out of free translations. The local version will be fine for small projects like this.

Before I do another release and promote, I'd like to add some more templates. I'm considering removing the webtrees standard template code and making some less "statistical" and more about presentation - maybe just one or two keyword shortcuts and a reference for where to find more. I'm also thinking about tidying up the config UI.
