Voting poll on the website

Hi,

I think that having a voting poll on the website where voting members can receive a notification when a poll is started or is about to end would be great.

Also, non-voting members could also vote in a separate poll so this way the community opinion on a certain topic could be seen better.

The mailing list is still a great place to discuss but this would create a better transparency across all members/end-users.

I think this should be kept as simple as possible:

Pages needed: 1) list active / closed polls

• list poll name
• current status
• votes status

2) poll details/vote page

• poll name
• poll discussion ML link
• poll visible for voting members only or for community displayed separately in the page, according to account type
• a vote can be casted only while the poll is open and the vote can be changed at any time while the poll is still opened

3) poll administration

• creating polls can be done by voting members only
• a poll must have a period of X days, but can be extended after creation
• a poll cannot be deleted
• a poll can be edited after creation but all the voters will need to be informed about the changes (just sent a simple notification)

4) accounts:

• all accounts should be linked to twitter/G+/FB/GH so that one person can only vote once in a active poll
• FIG voting members should have their account marked as 'special' so that they can vote in the members poll while the other poll is opened for the non-FIG members

I think this should be kept as simple as possible:

1) Main Page showing open and closed topics.

• An 'activity area', essentially every time someone votes it will be recorded as activity.
• Open Topics
• Closed Topics (and their results)

2) Vote Page

• Pull down the markdown syntax from a URL to render this on the topic's page.
• Voting members must authenticate via github to place their vote
• PHP Community vote counter (also auth via github) which will be a StackOverflow concept of +1 or -1, and it will show a counter to demonstrate the PHP community's general reaction to the idea.

3) poll administration

• creating polls can be done by voting members only
• a poll cannot be deleted

4) accounts:

• FIG voting members should have their account marked as 'special', essentially there will be a whitelist of github usernames.

However, this would require php. Something that was trying to be avoided as per #9

Maybe something like Polldaddy could be used?

If a paid account is used, private polls can be held and the results published once its done.
