Problem 1

The requested package yiisoft/yii2-gii could not be found in any version, there may be a typo in the package name. Problem 2
Installation request for schmunk42/yii2-giiant dev-master -> satisfiable by schmunk42/yii2-giiant[dev-master].
schmunk42/yii2-giiant dev-master requires yiisoft/yii2-gii * -> no matching package found.

to move to the phundament.. i would move all the stuff over, but it doesn't want to install...

You need to set yiisoft/yii2-gii to dev-master in your root composer.json. (I assume you have a project with stability stable?) There was an issue fixed in Yii2 but not released yet.
