I've built a pi1541 using A wiring, an oled and physical buttons, this works really well on my c64 using 1541 and jiffy roms, never had an issue.
Today a c128 landed in my lap and I tried hooking up the pi1541, when doing any LOAD,8 commands the error 'DEVICE NOT PRESENT' is displayed, also while the serial cable is connected to the c128 the physical buttons on the pi1541 board do not respond, they are non-responsive to browse/select/exit images. If the serial cable is removed from the c128 buttons respond as normal again, I've tried both 1541 and jiffy roms.
I've also pulled the cover off the c128 and checked for any shorts/repairs around the serial port and found nothing.
Not sure how to troubleshoot this further, any ideas?
