Where to place the free-wheel diode ? #1

Hi,

Nice work! I'm interested to push your design further, I see the used regulator can handle -20V to +38V so I guess it is already the more robust one. However it is unclear to me where you placed the free-wheel diode ? I would put it once per board between GND and 12V but wanted to ask for confirmation.

Thanks for your help

Hi ! Sorry it was unclear. Yes, the microchip regulator is the more robust one, I didn't have any problem any more. I only place one reverse diode between the main power connection. Not on all the boards. Apparently it is sufficient to absorb a negative pulse, which rarely appears when I disconnect the battery. Anyway the new regulators can handle it. Sorry for the markings as well. It barely work with 12V, prefer at least 16V. In my setup I used a 4S lipo, but it's ideally 24V. It is good you're asking questions, I realize I forgot quite some info. For example, the capacitors should have the lowest resistance possible. Keep the 1210 package, as the 0805 will not work. Also, I stacked 2x 10uF for this reason. I'm looking forward to see your design ! I'm sure mine can be greatly enhanced. Anyway, don't hesitate!
