Cleanup and simplify themes (brainstorm/RFC) #2153

Open pietervdvn opened 1 month ago

We've had a nice growth of themes in the past years, but this also has lead to some lesser-used themes and themes covering the same ground - albeit in a different branding.

I'm thinking about removing some themes because their functionality is similar to another theme:

Are there other themes that might be merged or cleaned up?

There are six (!) different bicycle themed maps: Cyclofix, Bicycle parkings, Bicycle rental, Bicycle libraries, Cycle Streets and Bicycle infrastructure

The three recycling themed maps Waste, Circular economy and Waste baskets could also be merged.

Ghost bikes could be combined with Memorials

Oh, thanks for the extra input! I've forgotten about those, good to have more eyes and ideas ;)

True, but some of them serve a different group of people.

Cyclofix serves day-to-day cyclists; cycle streets mostly serves bicycle advocates and municipalities; same for bicycle infrastructure (even though that one is hardly used)

However, bicycle libraries and bicycle rental could possibly be joined or be abandoned (those layers are within other themes anyway).

The three recycling themed maps Waste, Circular economy and Waste baskets could also be merged.

Hmm, in some respect. Waste baskets (as theme) is indeed seldomly used and the waste_basket layer is available in many other themes:

However, circular economy serves a different purpose though; so that one should be kept.

Ghost bikes could be combined with Memorials

Yes, but these serve different groups of people. Ghost bikes is very specific for safer cycling (and walking) advocacy. (Note to self: make a SAVE-preset too)
