phpMyAdmin error message #12

once logged to phpmyadmin i got these messages:

The phpMyAdmin configuration storage is not completely configured, some extended features have been deactivated. To find out why click here.
Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.

can't upload/import my .sql files

Those warnings seem normal with a default setup. I get them too. I'll see if I can adjust some settings. Though I've been thinking of finding an alternative to phpMyAdmin altogether as not many people like it.
