We need both a Tailpipe and a Demand variable, since the Demand variable, which does not include biofuels, is used to report Kyoto gases.

Yes this is true. I think that at some point the bioshare removal for Demand disappeared, but in general in REMIND the Demand variables are always direct emissions except biomass-based ones (which is what is required for the Kyoto-Gases, if I'm not mistaken). Tailpipe emissions on the other hand are all direct emissions. I added @robertpietzcker as a reviewer, please correct me.
