as per @Gadgetoid suggestion probing /dev/i2c* and /dev/spi* to detect effective state of hardware interfaces. This has the advantage that users will receive the reboot prompt until a reboot is done - previous method would allow several scripts to be ran only the first of which would display the reminder/prompt.
